Planes roared over Belgrade late yesterday and early today, and the rattle of heavy anti-aircraft fire resounded in the capital soon after the air raid sirens sounded. Local media reported that two children and a woman were killed and several people were injured in Ralja, 18 miles south of Belgrade, when a missile struck residential buildings. Tanjug said three people were killed and two injured when NATO bombed two villages in the area southeast of Pristina, Kosovo’s provincial capital. The reports could not be independently confirmed.

Mobil/Exxon Shareholders Meetings

Today, both Exxon and Mobil are holding their annual shareholders’ meeting in Dallas, Texas. Shareholders will vote on two resolutions: whether the two companies should merge, becoming one of the world’s largest corporations, and a resolution on global warming.

U.S. Civil Rights Commission Hearing On Police Brutality

In New York yesterday, a federal commission waded into the tense and politically charged debate over police tactics, hearing hours of testimony from community activists, defenders of the police and police brutality victims.
